Hotel or Motel Accommodation -
means a building or place (whether or not licensed premises under the Liquor Act 2007) that provides temporary or short-term accommodation on a commercial basis and that—
(a) comprises rooms or self-contained suites, and
(b) may provide meals to guests or the general public and facilities for the parking of guests’ vehicles,
but does not include backpackers’ accommodation, a boarding house, bed and breakfast accommodation or farm stay accommodation.
Hotel or Motel Accommodation serves as an essential component of the tourism and hospitality industry, catering to travellers seeking comfortable and convenient short-term stays.
These facilities range from luxury hotels in urban centres offering premium amenities like on-site restaurants, conference spaces and spas to motels along highways that provide affordable, practical lodging for road trippers.
Eg., a family vacationing in a coastal area might choose a hotel with self-contained suites and recreational amenities like pools and dining options, while business travellers might opt for motels offering parking and easy access to main transport routes.
Hotels and motels also contribute significantly to local economies by generating employment opportunities, supporting tourism and attracting visitors to nearby attractions or events.
Strategically located near transport hubs, city centres, or tourist destinations, these accommodations often serve as gateways to exploring a region.
Their versatility allows them to cater to a wide demographic, from leisure travellers to corporate clients, ensuring they remain a vital part of the commercial and cultural fabric of their communities.
